1. Your headline must offer something that your target market wants very badly.
2. Your headline must include something of self interest to the reader.
3. If your product is new or improved, say so in the headline.
4. Do not just invoke curiosity in your headline, you must also include something of interest to the reader.
5. Avoid negativity in your headline. Always turn the negative into a positive statement.
6. Your headline should suggest a quick and easy way to achieve the benefit(s) stated.
7. Your headline should be believable.
8. Determine what would make you buy your product, and then try to incorporate that idea into your headline.
9. Avoid making your headline so short that you don’t get the main point across.
10. Avoid clever headlines that makes the reader think "how clever." Cleverness rarely gets people to read your web page or spend money.
11. Avoid headlines that sound dead, or like they should be at the bottom of the statue like "To Server Humanity Better…"
12. Suggest in your headline that your copy contains useful and valuable information.
13. Use your headline to reach out and grab the reader’s attention.
14. Avoid hard to grasp headlines that require the reader to think about what you are saying.
15. NEVER trust your own reaction to your headlines. Instead, get the reaction of someone else.
16. If you emphasize a word in your headline, make sure that word means something and is important.
17. Remember that large type words act as a stopper. They get people to stop and pay attention, so choose the best words that will get the most attention.
18. Don’t let an artist or layout person decide which headline words to emphasize. An artist thinks in terms of color contrasts and tones, not in terms of making money!
19. Avoid writing an ad that attracts the wrong people. Make sure your headline attracts the people that are most interested in what you have to offer.
If you will follow these simple guidelines for writing your headline copy, you will be more likely to have a successful headline and a successful ad! Take some time right now and look back over these guidelines.
Then, try to write your own headlines. When you have a few that you think are wonderful, run them by a friend. If that friend asks to see the rest of your copy, you know you have written a true killer headline.

My take is Time is NOT money. This not mean I de-value time. I believe time is far more important than money. One can always make some more money, Time however cannot be replaced. It is what it is.
Everyone is always concerned about their page rank, placing good at Google, Yahoo etc. As of late more and more focus is being place on SMO along with SEO. But what are you spending, too much time or too much money?
How much time are you spending on social media efforts ? What kinds of activities in reguards to SMO are you engaging in? Are you doing competitive research? Are you searching the social media world looking for trends, key topics or even conversations that would be of interest to your products and services? Do you have a thumb on the pulse of your brand in the social media realm?
Doing any or all of the above can be very costly in both time and money!
What we have been doing of late is all of the above, however we have focused on a specific area. Social Media Search Engines. It has proven very helpful to us to have only a hand full of areas to focus on, and adjust our social “profile” accordingly.
Now instead of sifting through hundreds and hundreds of “out-lets” we work with only a few to focus on.
It has proven for US to be a HUGE plus, and is allowing more time to spend on SMO, improving our social profile, increasing traffic and revenue.
The social “engines” we have settled on are:
Take control of your brand and its “position” in the social media world.

A blind man is walking down the street with his seeing-eye dog one day. They come to a busy intersection, and the dog, ignoring the high volume of traffic zooming by on the street, leads the blind man right out into the thick of traffic.
This is followed by the screech of tires and horns blaring as panicked drivers try desperately not to run the pair down. The blind man and the dog finally reach the safety of the sidewalk on the other side of the street, and the blind man pulls a cookie out of his coat pocket which he offers to the dog.
A passerby, having observed the near fatal incident, can’t control his amazement and says to the blind man, “Why on earth are you rewarding your dog with a cookie? He nearly got you killed!”
The blind man turns partially in his direction and replies, “To find out where his head is, so I can kick his ASS.”

So what do you think? I say that a Home Business IS an investment. Would you invest in yours?
If you are not treating your home or internet based business like a business then I have to ask if you are taking it seriously? If you don’t take your business serious, why should anyone else? Maybe that’s the “problem”.
Operating a home based business is very much like investing in stocks, after all stocks are “ownership” in a business. Would you buy stocks in your current business? If not why?
Typically people buy stocks in companies that they “believe” will do well, since you are the CEO that belief should be strong in your investment. Failure is often preceded by false hopes, people “think” I will start an online or home business this week, and their financial worries will be gone next week. Unfortunately that is not the way it works, if it did the statistical failure of new businesses would be zero and the economy would not be in a slump.
Do a little research on the world’s richest people, most of them hold significant amounts of shares – most of them in their OWN company. Are you taking advantage of the compounded rewards of growth over time, or are you looking to make that quick score and damaging the likely hood of success?
Some things to think about…
- Do you have a business Plan?
- Do you have a Marketing Plan?
- Have you established a budget for running your business?
- Do you KNOW HOW to run your business?
Planning, research, consistency and time are key elements to success for both a home business and investing. Due Diligence in your market will lead you to long haul rewards.
Bottom Line; If you don’t take YOUR Business Seriously, don’t expect anyone else to either.
Take your time, learn how to run your business, make a plan and execute it, it may need adjusting along the way but that is what learning is all about!

Even skilled and otherwise savvy Web Practitioners don’t “Get” Twitter for marketing and there’s currently a lively debate in another forum about the value of Twitter in local marketing.
Twitter is frequently viewed as another globespanning garden fence or water cooler whose only practical use if for comparing recipes and last night’s game.
So let’s look at what Twitter really can do for the merchant who wishes to market his business, locally.
The 1,000lb Gorilla is not in this room. With Twitter; There aren’t any concerns about CanSpam compliance. Or; Someone who has forgotten they’ve subscribed and won’t click the unsubscribe link, call your Hosting Supplier and have him pull the plug on you. Twitter is short, sweet and simple!
Where else can you insert your hot offer (Or other message). and instantly send it (Called a Tweet). to thousands of folks who have said they want to know more about you and then; Have a percentage of them forward it to a couple of thousand colleagues and associates in their FriendForce. Just do the math.
That’s viral marketing on steroids supercharged with a couple of dozen Titan Rockets and it’s “Hands Off”.
You’ve probably heard of major intersections and shopping malls “Swarmed” from a single SMS messaging click. ….. Twitter reaches those who aren’t SMS enabled. (If you’re thinking of “Swarming” a mall. …. Please don’t say you heard it here).
Now I fully understand that a hot offer on laundry detergent from Joe’s Value Mart in Toledo won’t have much appeal to a Twitter in Tokyo. However; Since Joe’s Twitter promotion is probably limited to current circulars. local ads, on his vehicles, cash register receipts and in his store. …. The Tokyo fella won’t even know Joe exists and certainly won’t be following Joe on Twitter.
For his Tweet; Ideally; Joe should have a landing page that lists his other hot offers, recipes, tips etc and certainly a process for readers to tell all their friends about Joe’s Twitter and nudge them to follow Joe. (Maybe even offer an incentive or coupon to nudge the process along).
Although a landing page with a video welcome, eye catching graphics and background music is very effective in engaging the reader and has a tremendous impact. ….. Joe doesn’t really need a landing page. … A few sizzling offers in his tweet is often enough to create buzz and bring in customers.
BLATANT PLUG … Turning one contact into 5 more is my specialty.
There are currently thousands of Realtors and Financial Consultants who are now wishing they had employed some mechanism for nourishing relationships with clients. Fielding panic calls and patching the patches in the dyke is not fun neither is it necessary where today’s cheap technology has been pro-actively used to build trust and confidence during the good times.
Twitter is another of those Great Democratizers that lets the little guy turn on a dime, take on the Goliaths and WIN.
If you see a nugget of possibility here but not sure how you can enroll these powerful yet simple weapons into your marketing army. …… I’d be glad to give you a no fee, no obligation, ten minute consultation. …. Contact me from the link below and let’s find a way for you to eat your competitors’ lunch, hang on to your market share and stop all customer migration dead in it’s tracks.
Special thanks to Lindy Asimus and Cheryl Cigan for their valuable input.

…. and we won’t bite you if you add your comment or Stumble.
Bestest.

If we could be paid for every time we have heard that question, we would be able to buy a small country….
Seriously, it is amazing that so many don’t know why a web site would benefit them, or how it could actually enhance their position. This is sadly, especially true in the so called “off-line” markets. The struggling Mom & Pop little guys. The struggling does NOT have to continue, the cost does NOT have to be prohibitive, and the Answers are free.
First, please review 9 Key reasons even an “off-line” business should have a website!
REASON #1: A Web site increases your credibility. For a small to medium sized business, a web site is a great way of building confidence and looking bigger than you really are. Much like your business cards, stationery and other promotional material, your Web site has a significant impact on how you and your business are perceived. Web sites that are easy to use, well-designed and have well written compelling content have a positive effect on visitor impressions, and your credibility as a business.
REASON #2: A Web site increases your visibility. A recent study showed that there are now roughly 180 million people with access to the World Wide Web in the US alone. Some of these will be looking for what you have to offer. They may be located down the street or half way across the country. With a Web site you open your business up to a whole new world of possibilities. The best part is that unlike your company’s office that may be open from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday, you Web site is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year… in any time zone, making your business accessible to anyone, anywhere.
REASON #3: A Web site can help you build trust with existing and potential customers. Trust is a big, big factor in business. People are more likely to buy from you if they trust you. With a Web site you can easily communicate your goals, testimonials, vision, and company history or just about anything else you feel will build trust with your visitors. Take a look around the Internet or just think about the online businesses you trust. Trust is a major selling point. It not only can help drive sales, but it creates a first-class and, most importantly, lasting relationship with customers.
REASON #4: A Web site can bring you local business. On the Internet you can succeed as a local business. According to the New York Times a recent survey of 5,500 online shoppers found that 25 percent of their searches were for merchants located near their homes or workplaces. While you have the potential to be seen by millions of people all over the world, one of the biggest untapped opportunities on the Internet is local markets. Why you ask? It’s because they want to find the information in as few clicks as possible. If you were in Houston, Texas and needed to have your carpet cleaned, you wouldn’t look up ‘Carpet Cleaners" you would look up ‘Carpet Cleaners Houston Texas 77042".
REASON #5: A Web site makes it easy for you to receive referrals. If you are spending time building good rapport with your customers, you will get referrals. And let’s face it everyone loves referrals. Referrals are great because they have already been presold on how great your company is by someone they trust. Having a web site will make it easier to encourage your customers to make referrals. With a brochure your customer has to have a copy handy to give to an interested prospect. A Web site is accessible anywhere, anytime.
REASON #6: A Web site is a cost effective sales tool. Why build a site if you don’t use it to promote your products and services? Web sites offer one of the lowest cost sales channels available, and a great way to supplement your offline business. You need to let people know they have a choice, and explain why YOU are that choice. Millions of people are using the web to make major decisions when they need products and services. Combining a well designed, easy to navigate site with effective gripping content will compel people to buy. They can’t buy from you if you aren’t even there!
REASON #7: A Web site enhances offline advertising efforts. Like most business you probably spend money on offline advertising such as business cards, stationary, brochures and flyers. Adding your Web site address to current marketing material can increase the effectiveness of your advertising ten-fold. A Web address gives people the ability to take action on your offer or product, and can be a reminder of who you are and why they need your product or service. It also advertises your Web site to new customers without having to wait for a salesperson to call or visit them.
REASON #8: A Web site can enhance customer relations. It is surprising how many people do not understand the importance of deepening their relationships with their online and offline customers. There are always people who are interested in your product or service but may not be ready to buy at that time. The answer is to contact them regularly. A recent study showed that on average people need to hear about your product or service 7 times before they will act on the offer. By staying in contact with your customer via email or newsletter, you keep them coming back to your site so that you are on their mind when they are ready to buy.
REASON #9: A Web site is a great prospecting tool. In addition to acting as a sales and marketing tool you web site is also a good way to gather and track prospect information. If someone comes to your Web site once, there is no guarantee they will come back. You need to be able to capture who they are by using forms and surveys on your Web site. Rather than going out and getting leads, let them come to you. Follow-up with special offers, newsletters and special tips to build a pool of leads to whom you can sell.
We ARE helping individuals as well as businesses begin to thrive even in today’s rough & tumble market places, even when competing with the “Big-Box” companies.
You no longer have to spend “thousands” on a web-effort that no one ever finds. You no longer “need” expert staff to operate your own professional website; we have changed the rules and are ready to “show” you the proof.
The key is Honesty, Integrity and Truth.
